We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Re: Trailers
According to the time stamp, I posted the above four minutes before you posted the thread. It's cool, though, since I don't think we have a Jurassic World thread. You can change the title if you want and make it our official thread for the topic.

Re: Trailers
Are they finally dealing with the potential ramifications of time travel in the Terminator universe? Because that's what it looks like they're doing.
I kind of hope they're not, though. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I liked that Terminator 3 just further reinforced the notion that Judgment Day is inevitable and can't be prevented. What is implicit in this notion is also that the machines can't actually change the past, despite trying very hard, because Sarah and John Connor are always going to survive. It would be a shame if they messed this up.
The more movies they make, the more inconsistencies they're likely to introduce.

Re: Trailers
Something in me only accepts the first two movies as canon. (They're not, however, Cannon. They're not, but Exterminator and Exterminator 2 are.) I don't really mind the third and fourth movies, but I guess I think of them as expensive fan films.

I can't remember a single thing about the 4th. 3rd was OK though, and the bunker final scene / revelation was pretty damn effective and depressing.

Re: Trailers
I guess it's different from the first one... I realized that what bothered me is the focus on the chase scene. Of course, the fuel tanker scene was the big climax of The Road Warrior, but all they're showing us in the trailer is something that looks like they wanted to multiply that scene by 100 and give us some bitching pyrotechnics. What makes this different from your average Fast/Furious movie? The Swollen Goiter of God wrote: You might prefer this trailer, Mal:

Re: Trailers
Probably not much. There's a good chance Miller even used comparisons to the Fast and the Furious franchise to get this movie bankrolled. Then again, trailers can be deceptive, and for all we know, we might've just been shown fairly sizable chunks of the only big set pieces in the entire movie. They're trying to sell this movie to the widest audience possible, and one of the best ways to do that is to give people the impression that the advertised property is similar to another, more recent property audiences liked. Thanks to the Bourne movies and the Bond reboot, we've already seen how a recent franchise can have a big impact on how an older franchise reenters the market.
A lot of old fans seem to want to give Miller the benefit of the doubt, but others point to his more recent filmography, say he's lost his "hardness" (impotence comes with old age, after all), and say that what made the first two distinctive is that he had to work with budgetary limitations and force himself to be more creative. (They're often pretty dismissive of Thunderdome. Incidentally, I think it had a much bigger budget than the first two--though I'm pretty sure Mad Max 2/The Road Warrior cost way more to make than the first one.) It's sort of the Lucas argument all over again. Is it a good argument? Maybe. I'm not sure I needed more Mad Max movies.

I considered bringing some of the Iron Sky sequel stuff over here a couple weeks ago to make fun of it, but it felt like shooting fish in a barrel. They also have clips on-line of Jesus Christ shooting a machine gun. (Weird Al did it.)

Re: Trailers
How can you even make fun of Iron Sky when it's already making fun of itself? I'm just surprised that this sort of thing got funded. I guess Snakes on a Plane showed that you can have some success by just running with a ridiculous premise.
It looks like something I would have come up with when I was 12.

Re: Trailers
You just showed exactly how you can make fun of something when it's already making fun of itself. It tries too hard to convince you it's not trying hard at all. It adheres to the old Family Guy formula (which is, admittedly, now a little outdated) wherein one adds X cultural reference point to Y cultural reference point and assumes this makes for an interesting/funny/cool combination.Mal Shot First wrote:How can you even make fun of Iron Sky when it's already making fun of itself? I'm not surprised it was funded. It was crowdfunded. Crowds fund the dumbest shit. Crowds even funded a second season of Ain't It Cool, but Harry & Co. sure stuck it to them!

At this point, that Kickstarter was funded more than a year and three months ago.

Re: Trailers
I'm pretty curious to see this six-episode (seven-episode?) second season. I'm surprised they're only doing this many, but they say the episodes are long enough to fill a half hour's worth of KLRU public-access programming, so I guess that's... something.
Mostly, I want to see how much of it is new material. If Joseph Gordon Levitt, Fede Alvarez, Tony Danza, Bruce Campbell, Wes Craven, Danny Boyle, Jane Levy, and a handful of Austinites end up being the only interviewees, it's going to raise some eyebrows. (The people named were all mentioned on the Kickstarter page as having done interviews before the Kickstarter happened, and clips from this material is viewable in the Kickstarter video.)

Geo-locking means I can't watch that, but it looked like Ex Machina??? In which case it got damn fine reviews over here. Looks intriguing.

I still kinda think Reynolds needs another crack at the Green Lantern.

Re: Trailers
He never seemed right for the role to me--even though I thought he was all right in the part. He wasn't the movie's real problem. Bradley Cooper was almost Green Lantern. That might have worked.
I think Reynolds was made for the Deadpool character. I'm looking forward to seeing him return to Wade Wilson.
