Current Annoyances
Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Are times that tough that you can't afford an increase of 2.50??

If you don't mind the hassle, go for it.

It's the principle. Increased price for decreased service. If they left it 5 devices and threw in Super HD with a note about all their cool upcoming programming then I would go for it, but they didn't. They just sent me an email saying "Price up, service down."
And if you just take a 2.50 rise on Netflix, then Sky, then car insurance, then electricity and gas bill...........

...it really starts to chip into the £400 a month you spend on the bought-brand-new SUV you never use (unless you decided to sell it; I can't remember) and the £400K you have lying around to buy a new house?

I traded it in for the Audi. Monthly was the same. And the new and increased mortgage is a sacrifice for a home I can raise a family in.

Re: Current Annoyances
My stupid company for suddenly deciding that they want to add a new circuit to our Fort Worth office tomorrow night, so I have to drive over at 9pm and install a module into the router and run fiber across the server room to plug it into the new demark.
Of course, it's not like I have a life, but by that time on a friday night I usually have a pretty good buzz going on so I will have to stay somewhat sober until I get it done.

Payroll snafu at work. Somehow I was put in the system as someone getting a raise and backpay for said raise. I'm not actually getting a raise. Discovered this when I got the stub for my upcoming end-of-month pay check and discovered it was 2.4X the normal amount. It looks like it was too late to get it out before the checks are processed, so I will have to work with payroll to refund the overpaid amount.

CBC news non-stop coverage of the quaintly titled "Three Amigos" conference in Ottawa. The channel is locked on to CBC at work (no joke, channel changer has been removed and the buttons on the tv have plexiglass over them). CBC news in general then. Same stories at the top and bottom of the hour. Killing me slowly, but surely.

Every human being of Portuguese descent in the Greater Toronto Area who drives a car has been using their horn for the purposes of, I don't know, being seriously obnoxious this evening.
I believe this is related to some kind of sporting event earlier today.

I lost two cats once. Three years later found them both lazing in a neighbours front room.

21st Century Bill's cat (he named him Jakester) ran away a couple years ago. He looked and looked for him. I think he finally found him at the pound.

She's a super needy Siamese who is not exactly an outdoors cat. I fear the worst, but will keep some hope alive.

Re: Current Annoyances
My parents once had a house cat who escaped one fall, ran off into a corn field and wasn't seen again until the following spring (this being after a Minnesota winter, mind you) when he walked back up as if he'd never left.
Keep the faith.

Re: Current Annoyances
I have looked. I am trying. The posters are in place.
Is it wrong that I am actually considering this as a reason for not visiting my parents on Sunday?
"Oh, I'm sorry, Mom, but I need to spend the weekend searching after a cat who is, in all probability, either:
A: Living down the road somewhere in relative comfort;
B: In an alley somewhere being Jodie Fostered by some nasty alley cats... and maybe she likes it... but I hope she doesn't.... but who am I to judge............
C: Inside the digestive tracts of the local Racoon gangs, who are neither as cute and/or lovable as Ranger Rick or Rocket Racoon.
I have learned to expect the worst.

Re: Current Annoyances
I know that last post may have created the impression I find this laughable. I don't. She really is a wonderful cat.
I think I may have pushed her away by being less attentive than I was months ago. This is pretty much what happens when you take someone for granted.

That's the lesson of the Leigh Brackett-scripted adaptation of Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye--all the way down to the cat abandonment.
