WAYWRN: Because there aren't enough characters in this field

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

I watched Fruitvale Station last night. Very, very well made. Tragic story that I didn't know very much about. Well worth a watch.

Re: WAYWRN: Because there aren't enough characters in this f
I watched Tower Heist over the weekend and thought it was surprisingly decent. It had been on our Netflix queue for a while, but kept getting pushed down because my wife kept dragging other titles in front of it. Finally, though, she was too busy a couple of weeks ago to notice that the movie was in the top spot, so we ended up getting it. In the end, she liked it, too.
It's certainly a comedy, but at some moments it does feel like a genuine heist film. I found myself rooting for the team of likeable bumbling idiots trying to rob a Wall Street millionaire. The main players do their jobs well - Ben Stiller is reliable, as always; Alan Alda plays a great charismatic asshole villain; Eddie Murphy even manages to channel his 80s self in a way I didn't think he could anymore. The movie really plays on people's emotions and wishful thinking about Wall Street sharks finally getting "what they deserve" instead of crashing the economy and getting away with it... but it works regardless of the ham-fisted delivery of this message.
Also saw Casablanca again over the weekend. How did I never realize that Warner Bros. now uses a short segment of "As Time Goes By" as the intro to their home videos? That's all I could think of, though, as I kept hearing the song in the movie.

I think it's a delayed reaction for a lot of people that Warner Bros. currently uses the bit from "As Time Goes By" in their intro. You're just hearing a snippet, after all. The studio considers Casablanca their crown jewel, even though they have plenty of greats in their catalog. Anyway, I guess it makes sense that they'd use it.
The one they were using before the current one worked in a bit of the Merrie Melodies theme. Or maybe it was the Looney Tunes theme. I'll go check. All right. It was definitely the Merrie Melodies theme.
The Warner Bros. intro I saw the most growing up was the minimalist one with the bold red, black, and white. I think a lot of people count it as a "scary" logo. (There are some scary logo collections on YouTube. If you ever get bored enough to sit through eighteen minutes of logos, I recommend it. Some of them are pretty great.)
Here's the one with the red, black, and white (it's at 0:32; looks like you can't timestamp with our BBCode setup):

That's odd - I know I've used the timestamp feature here before.
* * *
Honestly, I don't understand why people would find the Warner logo with the bold red scary. Is it the red?

I think it's how it comes at you. There may have also been some ominous mood music accompanying some versions of it.

They play with it every so often. Eg. At the beginning of Supes Returns the 'Time Goes By' riff segues into the first few bars of the Superman March. It's very good and effective.

Man Of Steel on BluRay and my silly big TV.
Actually right now it's a Pacific Rim trailer. Apparently the Apocalypse has been cancelled. Ooooooh, get them!

Also, I get what they were going for with the tornado / Pa Kent thing and in context it kinda works. I still prefer the heart attack though (words that sound so wrong!)
If it was me I would have gone for the best of both worlds scenario. Have Pa Kent escape the tornado by running to the overpass, after stopping Clark from saving him, then when he gets to the overpass the stress and running triggers the coronary and Clark has to not run him super fast to the hospital and live with the knowledge he could have save him / the dog but he would have revealed himself.
Or something....

The sound mixing is all over the place on this disc. The conversations are so quiet, then the 'splosions are so 'Bwaaaarmy'. Difficult to watch late at night without worrying about the neighbours.

It's not meant so much for real computing. It's meant more for tablet computing. Both Microsoft and Apple pushed pretty hard to make tablets the norm. It works for people who just want to surf the web, but it's a real step back for people who need their computers to be computers.

Saw "Tim's Vermeer" this past weekend, a really wonderful documentary on an FX programmer who tried to a) figure out how the Old Master got such realistic lighting in his paintings, and then b) tried to recreate a Vermeer painting using the technique. A fabulous look at art, tech, craft, and science and how they can all work together. Just fascinating.

I really enjoy it usually, but as it's getting towards the end it seems to be veering into schmaltzville!

It seemed like it was veering in that direction three seasons ago. I haven't watched much of it since then. I used to get annoyed by it a lot. Maybe I'll go back through it someday and mark down my annoyances.

Just got done watching England beat the Irish in the Six Nations. Get in!!! Hahahahaha. Just going to laugh at my Irish mate who spent hours winding me up before the game. She sent me a pic of her baby in a little Ireland uniform before kick off. She ain't laughing now!

Literally. She takes her rugby very seriously. So does her hubby. He's English. It'll be fun in their household tonight!
