WAYWRN: Because there aren't enough characters in this field

Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

I just realized, in some ways it's like a spiritual successor to Ghostbusters. I could easily see these two stories coexisting in the same universe.

And I imagine I'm not the only one to have this idea.

And now it's Pulp Fiction at 2:15 am.

Why, you ask?

Because of: an overabundance of red wine; an unexpected (and yet, not entirely unwelcome) day off; and--most importantly--a why-the-fuck-not-attitude that has come upon me lately.

I love unexpected days off, and the opportunities to watch movies, fuelled by wine, late into the previous night!

"WAYWRN: Because there aren't enough characters in this field"
"What Are You Watching Right Now?"

The first has sixty characters. The second has thirty-two. There are many ways you could have indicated it was a sequel to the first thread without exceeding the number of characters you wound up writing out to let us know you were running short of character space. (Running short of character space: Typical Dalty.) Have I already pointed this out?

I have more. At the risk of beating a horse I already beat to death, at any rate.

I found this when hunting down Alan Sepinwall's reviews of True Detective. Apparently he wrote it a couple days after the HIMYM finale aired (when I was in the most intense phase of my rage against the finale) and I think it sums things up pretty wonderfully.

Welp it looks like season 9 is being streamed on NetFlix now, so I can watch it and see it it inflames me with rage like it does Adam. I read Sepinwall's reviews and I see why there might be hate for it. Personally, I am not feeling it but that may change as I watch the last season.

One of the keys to allowing it to enrage you appears to be having been invested in the show in the first place. (I guess this deserves a "duh.") Adam was clearly pretty invested in it. I dunno how or why, but he was.

I stuck it out over a number of years and an awful lot of shitty episodes to get to a finale that seemed so obvious that I couldn't possibly believe they'd actually pay it off in that way.

There's no way it'll enrage you as much as it did me/Sepinwall. It was a complete slap in the face to everyone who stuck with the show over all those years.

Choosing to stick with the show for any lengthy period seems like it would be its own slap in the face.

The Office is a nice parallel. Largely awful 2-3 final seasons, occasional episode to remind me why I still watched, paid off by an extremely rewarding, wonderful finale. Not to mention the 2-3 episodes leading up to the finale. Just fantastically done and so easily could've been emulated by HIMYM, but alas...

Saw "Frank" in the theatre yesterday. It is pretty bizarre, what with Michael Fassbender wearing a giant fake head for the bulk of the film (and this is based on a true story). Domhnall Gleeson plays a bit of a dick, but the rest of the characters are interesting, and the film has a lot to say about the thin line between artistry and mental illness. I enjoyed it, but I can imagine some people wouldn't.

I've been looking forward to it. I dig Frank Sidebottom and Daniel Johnston, and it's supposed pay tribute to some combination of their essences.

Tonight's the night I'll be watching the final two episodes of True Detective, but I've already seen more than enough to declare the first season an absolute masterpiece. The McConaughssance is a real, wonderful, amazing thing.
