Updates to Logging in at Corona
Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

If anyone cares, you still can't log in at Corona. Fortunately, the cut of this place's jib is what it is!

UPDATE:
No update. Last post was now over a month ago when poor, poor Omi updated the gas prices.
Which MEANS, as things stand, Adam's Gas Price Roundup COULD be the last CA thread ever to receive a reply!

No change to the site itself.
But the site's facebook page posted this:
Coming Attractions creator Patrick Sauriol will be interviewed for a newly announced film documentary about the rise of online movie news reporting. Check out BEARD-Os AND BADASSESS to learn more! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/10 ... d-badasses

I can log in to Corona again. I can't post with Chrome, but I can post with Safari. Didn't try other browsers.
The Kickstarter video above is still autoplaying.

I wonder if Patrick inadvertently does something every time he checks back in at Corona that resets it and makes it usable again.
Maybe now we can finally invite Omi over here.

Re: Updates to Logging in at Corona
No, the shitty software on that site has no correlation between me logging in and being able to leave a post. In fact, I can't log in either when the site gets dented like that.
Yes, the problem is the poor backend (don't use Drupal), but I also felt frustrated and at wit's end last November with the site. I was under too much stress with my other responsibilities, and adding movie news stories when every other website is updating within moments of the news breaking wasn't worth the added frustration to my life.
People tell me that they love the site, but what is it about it that they love?
The movie database? If so, then why does it hardly get any traffic?
The articles on CA? Sure, something could be said about some of them. But for 3 years I tried building an audience outside of the regular community and it never manifested.
That leaves the true fans who participate on the forums. I do appreciate your loyalty, but when I relaunched CA I spent a lot of money and try a viable business model. The model didn't work.
Some distance from the site has been good for me. The Beard-o fellas are showing me that others still remember the site. That's great, but how can CA make an impact in today's online movie community, when most of the time the movies coming out don't interest me?
Fluffy news about so-and-so starring in a movie, or cute mash-up videos, only can go so far. The exclusive scoops have dried up across the entire industry as studios felt the need to influence onliners through fear and possible exclusion from press coverage opportunities.
And at the end of the day I think that there are better, less frustrating ways to make money and a living.
I still enjoy parts and aspects of the community, but man, it's a bitch to try and survive in it.

Re: Updates to Logging in at Corona
Hey, Patrick!
It sucks that the site was set up the way it was set up. Drupal can be a real asshole if you don't massage every element of it from the get-go. You clearly put a lot of work into the site, and we all appreciate that you soldiered on as long as you did.
Personally, I think it would be cool if you left the usual movie news up to other sites and focused on more observational stuff. Could you do something like a CNN news ticker with links to scoops other sites were posting? Would other sites be all right with something like that, or would it violate some legal something? Movie sites used to have a page for recommended links to other movie sites, but I guess a news ticker might be taking things a little too far. Still, if it links back to the site that originally posted the story, would said site have much to take issue with? All the sites are getting their stories from elsewhere, anyway, so why not be a little more transparent about it.
Well, I say "you," but it seems like you might not be too into the idea of staying in the game. If not you, then... somebody. Whatever the case, if you choose to stay in the business in some way or other, I'm sure most of us will try our best to tag along.
I've mentioned wanting something like an Internet version of Famous Monsters of Filmland a number of times. I realize it may have seemed as though I was joking. I wasn't. I'd like a site with more stuff like that--part museum, part hall of wonders, part peek-behind-the-curtain. Interviews and reviews are usually a given for a movie site, so I'd want those too. Then let the news ticker do the rest.
I really seem to be dead-set on this news ticker thing. Just pick some reliable sites, write a simple script to make their headlines auto-populate in the ticker, and do some minor cleanup before they go live. Mostly, you'd just be making sure to link to one site per story.

Re: Updates to Logging in at Corona
<insert joke about Patrick having a problem with his backend>
I write for a site that does geek news regurgitation and well... I hate that part of it, which is why I mainly focus on reviews. To me, there's nothing interesting about recycling other people's stories. As you say, there's really no "breaking news" anymore. No one gets exclusives or the like these days. Stars/studios release it themselves on social media. There is the cultural commentary angle of entertainment news that I find interesting, but I'm in the minority because most people aren't interested in thinking these days.
I know you've sent me a few of your ideas for future sites, Patrick, and seriously if you ever decide to launch any of them I'll gladly donate my time. Like everyone on this forum, CA's been an important part of my life and we all owe you for that. So if I can ever help you out in any way, you just let me know. I'm sure everyone else on here feels the same.

Re: Updates to Logging in at Corona
In all sincerity, I lost my virginity because of CA.
So....yeah. After that kind of favor you did for me? Of course I'd be willing to help out.

There once was a girl named Lolita. She and I met on CA. She now owns my virginity and several other of my more treasured possessions.

Yes, but who was she and what was the bigger picture that frustrated dear Jakester so?

I think he was largely frustrated by the fact that he never got to bang her. If he was ever truly frustrated at all, that is.

I am here. It's like a void in my life has been filled. Ok, not really, but thanks for thinking about me.
Has anyone thought about reaching out to any of our other prodigal sons, like Bill or Bok?

Oh look, it's Omi, or a haphazardly crafted Thursty impersonation of an Omi. Nice (weak) try, Thursty, back Djack is not fooled.
